Pain of the Earth as temperatures rise,
that which was familiar and regulated
according to the needs of the one Body,
no longer optimal for the plants or grasses,
for the small animals or winged creatures.
The seductive warmth of March,
so pleasant for some,
creates great hardship for others —
little creatures that come out of
winter's sleep too soon,
for the flowering plants that do not
have enough time to rest beneath
the snow that is their temporary
shelter and home.
March — that in between month that is still
filled with winter's cold,
now warmed by a strange current
from the north that beguiles the senses,
lulling us into believing that all is well.
All is not
Warmth on our skin causes us to
forget its cost,
to forget the pain of the Earth as she tries
to rebalance herself so that life can continue.
We have come to a cusp,
a place of choosing indifference or caring,
attention or turning away.
What warms us, now, as temperatures rise,
has a great cost, a very great cost.
The Earth is in pain,
even if we do not notice it.
seen in all the different weathers
that come unpredictably now.
The beloved Earth asks us to
notice her dilemma and to make it
to not celebrate our warm skin
in what should be a winter landscape,
but only celebrate that which benefits
the Earth itself,
the beloved Earth,
the home of our heart.
