The Altar in Your Heart

GurujiMa  |

When you are ready to sit at this altar you will find the way, for your longing will show you the way that has always been there.

We pray, we meditate, we seek the light, we converse with others about spiritual pursuits and spiritual paths, we learn, we strive, we aspire, we grow. And all the while there is an altar in our heart that sits there waiting, that is not something that we have to acquire, that does not require any tending, that does not ask of us any effort except to be there. It arrived in this embodiment with us and is permanently lit, as if for an awaited honored guest, the one that we are.

This altar is the holy place of communion between the Divine One and the embodied self. It is not different from the embodied self, for it is part of it. Yet it is also a passageway where the Divine Presence can be felt more strongly, and where Divine nourishment and divine rest can be found.  One can sit by it as one would sit by a flowing mountain stream. This inner stream is that of divine blessing and divine grace. It fills the heart with love and simultaneously allows the honored guest to know that they are loved.

What prevents us from sitting by this altar in the heart is, in the first place,  not knowing that it is there, and in the second place, not knowing how much we are longing for it. In the third place, one may feel foolish for considering this a worthy pursuit, for in the eyes of the world this altar is not significant. In the eyes of the Divine, it is the most significant, being the place of connection between the human and the Divine.

When you are ready to sit at this altar you will find the way, for your longing will show you the way that has always been there. It is in you and is you. It is your love that flows from the Source and to the Source, creating a joining of two as One. May your seeking and finding be blessed.
