Sacred Responsibility
We are moving toward a time when divine harmony will not require to such a degree the presence of structures and institutions to protect us from the domination or exclusive self-interest of a few. We are moving toward a time when divine guidance and divine Presence will become the guiding principle for each human being.
Sacred responsibility is part of what we hold within ourselves as human beings who are embodiments of the Divine. As such, we exist in continual relationship with others and with our environment as part of ourselves. Out of this unity, comes the responsibility to care for all that we encounter, both human and non-human, both large and small. We are meant to exist in divine harmony with our environment, with each other, and with the planetary body.
This aspect of being a divine expression has multiple layers. On the one hand, we are responsible for maintaining our own consciousness in a positive way, a way that supports the purposes of our own embodiment as well as the purposes of the greater Whole of which we are a part. We are responsible for monitoring our consciousness, our thoughts, feelings motivations, and impulses so that this can happen. On the other hand, we are responsible to preserve in a state of harmony our own personal surroundings, our homes and work spaces, but also the society in which we live, and the Earth with whom we share one body. We recognize this responsibility not because we are obedient or compelled to, but because it is a natural extension of our state of unity with all. We care for the Earth by holding in sacred trust our maintenance of her habitats, her species, her atmosphere, her soil and waters, and her capacity to produce abundant life for all people.
We care for our society by maintaining an awareness of the elements, both tangible and intangible, that preserve the state of unity and harmony among people, creating benefits that accrue to all, not just to some. This outlook is implicit within the founding documents of these United States, expressed initially in the Declaration of Independence which acknowledges the right of each individual to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Such a right can only be manifested if we live in harmony with each other, caring for all, excluding none, measuring our actions in terms of whether they enhance or detract from these inalienable rights.
The preservation of harmony on an individual level requires that we remain responsible in high degree for our personal relationships with family, friends, and with ourselves and our own bodies.
The preservation of harmony on a societal level means that we accept responsibility for holding an active awareness of our relationship to the governing body of our land, to its policies and practices, and that we address the needs of all through asking of those who govern and of the structure of government that it at all times preserves and protects the rights of all people to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
When each individual of a society attunes to the divine mandate of caring for and attending to the needs of the greater Whole, then government can truly reflect the will of the people, and can truly serve them rather than being served by them. However, in order for this to happen, each individual that composes that society must accept responsibility for their own unique relationship to the process of governing, and must not relinquish this sacred awareness as a lower priority, influenced by the idea that one person does not matter. In addition to the sacred act of voting from time to time, the realization must be held that one also votes wit one’s consciousness and how it is maintained day to day, not just when casting a ballot. Our consciousness in caring for all, both on an individua level and on a governmental level, based on the divine life that exists within both spheres, is what makes divine harmony possible.
The founding documents of this country were written at a time when structures had to be put in place that assured that the inalienable rights of all people could be maintained, and that none would have legitimized superiority or domination over others. This was greatly needed at a time when the ego-needs of people or of groups could easily create permission to act for oneself, alone. To avoid this self-centered and exclusionary behavior, whether by the ‘majority’ in its willingness to ignore minority rights, or by selective smaller groups, structures were created and laws written for protection and preservation of the rights and freedoms of all.
We are moving toward a time, however, when divine harmony will not require to such a degree the presence of structures and institutions to protect us from the domination or exclusive self-interest of a few. We are moving toward a time when divine guidance and divine Presence will become the guiding principle for each human being, which will naturally and without external coercion move each one into a state of being able to collaborate and join with others to meet mutual needs. This will happen through the realization of the Divine within each self, making this possible for all.
This is the future for humanity, and it is the divine impulse behind that which came into existence as the United States of America so long ago. Though this divine current could not be put into practice fully at that time, it was held as a seed of potential within the vision of the creators of this new Republic, and it shall be the future not only that we may aspire to, but the future that we shall become.
